these "starch blocker" pills and I have trouble swallowing pills so I shopped around, spent 20 bucks on one brand after comparing, because they said on the package "easy to swallow gel caps", I opened them and they are an inch and a quarter long and the size of really fat green bean in diameter, my horse couldn't swallow these things...I tried to with a couple but just choked like crazy and gagged.

That depends on who you mean by "they."
"They" told you to take them back to the retailer. This is presumably because their contractual relationship with the retailer puts the burden of initial customer satisfaction on the retailer.
If the retailer won't take them back and refund your money, THEN call the manufacturer/distributor to pursue satisfaction.
